Last weekend was my little nephew’s 11-year-old birthday. At first, I was troubled by the problem of what to buy as her birthday present. You know, choosing presents is really a confusing matter. I always want to find something that is both useful and creative to give as present; otherwise, I think the present is meaningless and could not show my sincerity. So I thought carefully about my nephew’s condition. Though she is only 11 years old and still study in primary school, her eyesight is poor because of unhealthy use of the eyes. That is to say, she is near-sighted and has to wear prescription eyeglasses wherever she goes. (more…)

The reason why I start online shopping is very funny. My brother’s eyeglasses are old and he thinks that the ugly eyeglasses will mislead people’s judgment about his personal taste so that he wants to buy a new one. However, he does not have enough money to buy a new pair of kid’s prescription glasses from our local retail store. Though he is extremely fond of the fashionable eyeglasses, he cannot afford them. What is really a pity for him! He begs me with a requirement that I find a cheap but good glasses store for him. Well, it is not so easy to find such an excellent place. (more…)

“Happy New Year!” I heard the joyful voice coming out from my brother’s room while still in dream. Seconds later, the convivial clump-clump sound rang on the stairs. Then “Wonderful! Skateboard! I like skateboard! Thanks Daddy.” Then the sound mixing with cheer and thanks and clank kept coming to my ears. I waited in bed until finally “Wow! The prescription glasses” popped out. In a second, my nine-year-old brother wearing a pair of cute prescription glasses appeared before my bed. “Thanks, Lily! This is the best New Year gift I have received!” I smiled “As long as you like them”. (more…)

What should Parents do to Help Kids to Wear Eyeglasses

Filed under: Prescription Glasses — admin @ 5:02 am

Nowadays, even some kids as early as four months of age need to wear a pair of eyeglasses. Kids whose eyes are crossed at age four months may need eye muscle surgery but some children are extremely farsighted and glasses may straighten the eyes if prescribed promptly. There are children who need glasses for farsightedness at four months of age and have complete restoration of binocular vision. Glasses for children who have crossed eyes and are very farsighted should wear glasses during all waking hours.
Another children are extremely nearsighted at a young age. By age two or three years, these kids will be really sitting up close to the TV as well as holding objects us close to their face. The most common form of nearsightedness does not begin until about age 5-7 years of age, sometimes later. In general, the earlier the nearsightedness begins, the more nearsighted the child will ultimately become. Usually the nearsightness increases in amount every year as the child grows. The greatest changes occur between age six and twelve, but many children continue to become more nearsighted even as teenagers. There have been many, many forms of treatment to attempt to prevent myopia or nearsightedness from developing or progressing.

What should parents do to protect their children?
First, you should take a complete eye exam for your children. Your kids need an eye exam in the first two months of life, if there is a family history of an eye disease. If you have a family history of amblyopia or eye muscle problems, it would be better to take a exam between 6 and 12 months of age.The first two to four years, which are the most important years in visual development. It’s an excellent investment for you to have an eye exam for kids before the condition of eyes become worse. (more…)
